Subterranean mMTC in Remote Areas: Underground-to-Satellite Connectivity Approach

چکیده
Wireless underground sensor networks (WUSNs) promise to deliver substantial social and economic benefits across different verticals. However, many of the relevant application scenarios are located in remote areas with no supporting infrastructure available. To address this challenge, we conceptualize study direct-to-satellite (U-DtS) connectivity approach, implying reception signals sent by massive machine-type communication (mMTC) sensors gateways operating on low Earth orbit satellites. We start discussing two alternative architectures for enabling such underline their features limitations. Then, employ simulations model a smart-farming scenario studying feasibility performance U-DtS mMTC based LoRaWAN technology, focus effect parameters including burial depths, soils characteristics, settings. Our results reveal that LoRa modulation fails compete propagation losses high packets collision rate. long range-frequency hopping spread spectrum (LR-FHSS) is perspective may enable subsurface nodes at depth several dozens centimeters. Finally, pinpoint potential challenges research directions future studies.

متن کاملSatellite-linked acoustic receivers to observe behavior of fish in remote areas
Automated acoustic receivers are now widely used by biologists to study the behavior of fish. However, currently available acoustic receivers require physical recovery of the units to download stored data. Such operation is often difficult in remote study areas like in the open ocean. We present a new satellite-linked acoustic receiver (Vemco VR3-Argos) that allows downloading data through a sa...
متن کاملEvolution underground: shedding light on the diversification of subterranean insects
A recent study in BMC Evolutionary Biology has reconstructed the molecular phylogeny of a large Mediterranean cave-dwelling beetle clade, revealing an ancient origin and strong geographic structuring. It seems likely that diversification of this clade in the Oligocene was seeded by an ancestor already adapted to subterranean life.
متن کاملTV-Centric Technologies To Provide Remote Areas With Two-Way Satellite Broadband Access
This paper presents a newly low-cost defined satellite architecture for the distribution of new broadband interactive TV-centric services to actual end-users in the home. It is known that satellite connections provides the best and quickest solution to reduce the digital divide in less-favored areas, which has been considered as a major issue in the diffusion of broadband access. The platform e...
متن کاملnon-corrective approach to pronunciation
the aim of this study has been to find answers for the following questions: 1. what is the effect of immediate correction on students pronunciation errors? 2. what would be the effect of teaching the more rgular patterns of english pronunciation? 3. is there any significant difference between the two methods of dealing with pronuciation errore, i. e., correction and the teaching of the regular ...
